Drywall is an important material used in modern construction. A main ingredient of drywall is gypsum plaster, a substance closely related to mortar. Drywall use in both residential and commercial construction gained popularity in the mid-1900s. People liked this new building material because it was fairly easy to use, unlike plaster. Learning to install drywall can be done by working alongside someone with experience, completing a formal apprenticeship program or taking classes at a vocational school. To install drywall, one must be able to cut, measure, adjoin, fasten and properly install panels around electrical outlets, windows and door frames to create smooth walls. An insulation installer helps homeowners save heating and cooling costs while conserving the planet's resources. Spray foam insulation and batt insulation, also called fiberglass insulation, are common materials used by the insulation installer. Batt insulation is tucked into hollow parts of a structure's walls while spray foam insulation bonds to flooring and walls producing a seal that locks out moisture and air. Insulation and drywall are necessary elements when constructing a modern home.
