Architects, Builders & Engineers
Architects design homes and additions, builders bring blueprints to life and civil engineers ensure structures can remain standing no matter what weather comes along. These professionals often work together but can be hired separately by the homeowner and or construction company. If a new home is being built, architects, builders and engineers will typically all play a role in the construction. Architects combine education, talent and art into designing structures. Esteemed civil engineers earn degrees that train them to use scientific laws to determine structural building faults and how to improve them. A licensed land surveyor usually works with building professionals. The surveyor's job involves mapping out construction sites complete with boundaries and property lines for the architects, builders and engineers to incorporate into their plans. General contractors can step in and get to work once permits are pulled and plans are finalized. A land surveyor and engineer may work for a developer or permit service in both residential and commercial capacities. If a homeowner wants to build an addition, he will probably need an architect, builder and engineer but may not necessarily need a land surveyor, depending on the type of addition and the lot.
